One of the hot topics of this week has been in and around standing down employees.
Some basic rules and knowledge:
Standing down is not termination or redundancy. It allows you to “stand down” an employee on no pay under specific circumstances.
If an employee is stood down, their leave entitlements still accrue. You may need assistance with this in your payroll system.
Standing down an employee is all about open communication. Get in early, talk to your employees about how you are managing the situation.
Have employees take annual leave first, then look at stand down. Personal and Carers leave, unfortunately is designed for specific care, sickness or other personal requirements by definition. We do not recommend offering this leave to employees affected. Direction are not HR consultants. You can access a great resource here from professionals in this space.
